Matthias Verginer was born in Bressanone, Italy. He shares the studio with his brother Christian and his father Willy, both represented by VCRB Gallery as well. After a series of humoristic works, where human figures and animals were joined together in an absurd relation, Matthias changed radicaly his way of working. His sculptures are now build up of wooden layers with fabric in between, thus creating a scenery of isarithms. Other works bear lines of pencil, emphasising the inner character and nature of people. But even more so, they invite us to reflect on the mechanisms in which
we perceive our reality. M. Verginer explores the joy as well as the pain and difficulties of human existence. The sculptures are realistic in their resemblance to reality, but alienated in their meaning.
